Clinical Psychologist

After a number of years working as a qualified classroom teacher, Paula embarked upon studies in theology and counselling to gain a Bachelor Degree in counselling and has provided a psychotherapeutic service since 2000. Having completed a Masters in Clinical Psychology at the University of Adelaide in 2008 and in 2012 received AHPRA endorsement to practice as a Clinical Psychologist, Paula now provides specialised assessment and treatment.

She has worked as a psychologist and counsellor in a variety of settings including schools, community agencies, government Health, Child Protection and Education. Additionally, Paula has been approved by the Psychology Board of Australia to provide supervision to both Provisional Psychologists and Registrars within an Endorsement program.

Paula has training and experience for working in many areas of human experience and these include:

• grief and loss
• depression
• anxiety disorders (and phobias)
• relationship counselling
• life crises and transitions

Paula uses a person-centred approach in working with individuals and employs techniques from a number of psychotherapeutic methodologies including, but not exclusively, Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy, Narrative Therapy, Psycho-drama and Neuro-biological approaches to working with relationships and trauma. Consequently, an integrated psychotherapeutic approach is adopted through drawing upon a wide range of theoretical frameworks including Systems and Attachment Theory. Additionally, a diploma in clinical hypnosis was attained in 2014 and may be offered as an adjunctive psychotherapeutic intervention where applicable.

Furthermore, Paula has now entered the field of psychedelic assisted psychotherapy (specifically psilocybin and MDMA) and will be available to provide such therapy within the new legal guidelines sanctioned by the TGA in July 2023. She has successfully completed two recognised and well substantiated training programs totally over 190 hours of training within this model of therapy. Paula’s interest and training within this field continues.

Paula is registered with Medicare as a specialist provider of Clinical Psychological services, so eligible clients receive the highest level of Medicare rebates available. Electronic payment and Medicare Easyclaim facilities are available.
